Texas has the largest population of Kidney Failure patients (53,827) and the second largest number of Dialysis providers (548). ESRD Network 14.
There are 534 dialysis providers in the state of Texas, 127 of those are within 50 miles of the center of Houston. 100 are within 50 miles of the center of Dallas, 59 are within 50 miles of the center of San Antonio, 25 are within 50 miles of the center of Austin, 21 are within 50 miles of the center of McAllen, 20 are within 50 miles of the center of El Paso, 18 are within 50 miles of the center of Corpus Christi and 11 are within 50 miles of the center of Brownsville.
That leaves a whopping 381 clinics present in other small cities throughout Texas.
Dialysis Technicians make up the largest percentage of staffing for these facilities. With the mandate that all Dialysis Technicians become certified, they are required to attend a program meeting the federal and state guidelines.
Many of the candidates are unemployed and therefore struggle to pay for this education. The state of Texas has funds set aside to help individuals seeking career training in areas deemed “high occupation demand”.
